When Individual Counselling May Be Helpful

People seek support for many different reasons. Sometimes there is a specific difficulty that has become hard to manage. At other times, you may simply feel overwhelmed, stuck or unsure about what needs to change.

My work includes support with:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Stress and work-related stress
  • Depression and low mood
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Anger management
  • Addiction
  • Menopause
  • Redundancy
  • Significant life changes

You do not need to arrive with a clear explanation of what is wrong. We can begin with whatever feels most important to you and explore it together.

What Happens During Individual Counselling

Sessions give you dedicated time to step away from everyday pressures and focus on what you are experiencing.

You may want to explore difficult emotions, understand recurring patterns, make sense of past experiences or consider how you would like things to be different.

The process is not about being told what you should do. Instead, it gives you space to reflect, speak honestly and develop a clearer understanding of yourself and your circumstances.

What to Expect From Your First Session

Your first appointment is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you here and what you would like support with.

During the session, you can:

  • Explain what has been happening in your life
  • Discuss the feelings or experiences that are troubling you
  • Ask questions about how I work
  • Talk about what you hope to gain
  • Consider whether face-to-face or online appointments suit you
  • Decide whether you feel comfortable continuing

I encourage new clients to begin with one initial appointment rather than committing to a long course of sessions straight away. The relationship between us matters, and this gives you the chance to see whether working together feels right.

Face-to-Face & Online Appointments

Face-to-face appointments are available from my practice in Theddlethorpe, close to Mablethorpe. I also offer online appointments if travelling is difficult or you would feel more comfortable speaking from your own environment.

I work with adults aged 18 and over, including older adults who may value working with someone who brings both professional and broader life experience to the relationship.

What You Can Bring to a Session

You do not need to prepare a detailed history or know exactly what you want to say before your appointment. You can begin with whatever feels most important at the time.

You might want to talk about:

  • A situation that has become difficult to manage
  • Feelings you do not fully understand
  • Patterns that seem to keep repeating
  • A recent loss or major change
  • Relationship concerns
  • Stress, anxiety or low mood
  • Something from the past that still affects you now

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need to Know Exactly What I Want to Talk About?

No. Many people begin without knowing exactly how to describe what they are experiencing. You can start with whatever feels most difficult, confusing or important, and the conversation can develop from there.

Who Do You Work With?

I work with adults aged 18 and over. People come to me with a wide range of emotional, personal and relationship concerns, including anxiety, stress, low mood, bereavement and major life changes.

Do I Have to Commit to Regular Sessions Straight Away?

No. I encourage you to begin with one initial appointment. This gives you the opportunity to experience how I work and decide whether you would like to continue.

Can I Have Sessions Online?

Yes. Online appointments are available as an alternative to attending in person. They may suit you if travelling is difficult, you live further away or you simply prefer speaking from your own environment.

Is What I Talk About Confidential?

I provide a private setting where personal experiences and concerns can be discussed openly. If you have questions about confidentiality or professional boundaries, you are welcome to raise them before or during your first appointment.

Take the First Step at Your Own Pace

Reaching out for individual counselling does not mean you need to have all the answers or commit to long-term support. Your first appointment is simply an opportunity to talk about what is happening, ask questions, and see whether my approach feels right for you.
