Who Professional Supervision Is For

This service is intended for practising counsellors who want dedicated time to step outside their day-to-day client work and reflect on their practice.

You may be looking for a supervisor because you want space to consider complex work, explore professional boundaries, think through ethical questions or examine how your client relationships are affecting you personally and professionally.

It can also provide an opportunity to recognise strengths, identify areas for further development and consider how your practice is changing over time.

If you have specific requirements connected with an employer, training provider or professional membership, please check that my qualification and approach meet those requirements before arranging ongoing sessions.

What We Explore Together

The focus will depend on your work, circumstances and the issues you bring. Rather than following a fixed agenda, sessions provide structured reflective time in which relevant professional matters can be examined carefully.

This may include:

  • Client work that feels challenging or uncertain
  • Ethical questions and responsibilities
  • Boundaries within practitioner-client relationships
  • Patterns emerging across your caseload
  • The emotional impact of your work
  • Professional development and ongoing learning
  • Areas in which you would value another perspective

The intention is to create room for honest reflection rather than simply telling you what you should do.

How Clinical Supervision Works

Clinical supervision gives you dedicated time to step back from your day-to-day work and reflect on your practice in a supportive setting.

Sessions can focus on the areas most relevant to you at the time, including:

  • Client work that feels complex or challenging
  • Ethical questions and professional responsibilities
  • Boundaries within your work
  • Recurring themes or patterns across your caseload
  • The emotional impact of supporting clients
  • Your confidence, development and ongoing learning
  • Situations where another professional perspective may be helpful

The aim is not simply to provide answers, but to create space for thoughtful reflection, greater awareness and a responsible practice. Cheryl’s approach is collaborative and non-pressuring, with the working relationship forming an important part of the process.

A Collaborative & Non-Pressuring Approach

My wider practice places considerable importance on the quality of the working relationship. The same principle informs the way I support fellow practitioners.

I aim to offer a calm environment in which questions can be raised openly, including occasions when you feel unsure about a situation or want to examine your own responses to the work.

Professional knowledge matters, but so does feeling able to speak honestly with the person supporting your development. My qualification in this area complements my work with adults and couples and my experience in private practice since 2019.
