About Cheryl Robinson, A Therapist In Mablethorpe

Finding someone you feel comfortable speaking to can matter just as much as the type of support you choose. As a therapist in Mablethorpe, I offer adults and couples a calm, confidential and supportive space where difficult feelings, experiences and relationship concerns can be explored without judgement or pressure. I created Cheryl Robinson Counselling & Psychotherapy to provide a personal approach in which the relationship between us is central, giving you the opportunity to see whether working together feels right before making any longer-term commitment.

How My Experience Has Shaped My Approach

I established my private practice in 2019, but the way I work is shaped by more than qualifications or the number of years I have been practising. I believe that feeling understood, respected and able to speak honestly is an important part of any therapeutic relationship.

Before relocating to Lincolnshire, I ran a busy face-to-face practice in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. When I moved in 2025, many of the people I had previously worked with chose to continue their sessions with me online. Around 80% of my existing face-to-face clients made that transition. For me, that experience reinforced something I have always valued: the relationship built between client and practitioner matters.

Today, my practice is based in Theddlethorpe, close to Mablethorpe, where I work face-to-face with people from the surrounding East Lincolnshire area while continuing to offer online appointments.

Why The Right Connection Matters To Me

Choosing a therapist is a personal decision. Qualifications and experience are important, but you also need to feel that you can speak openly and that the person sitting with you is someone you can begin to trust.

That is why I do not ask new clients to commit to a long course of sessions from the outset. I encourage you to begin with one initial appointment. It gives us time to talk about what has brought you here, what you would like support with and, importantly, how it feels for us to work together.

If the connection feels right, we can discuss what comes next. If it does not, you have not been placed under pressure to continue.

This calm, non-pressuring approach is central to the way I practise.

The People And Concerns I Work With

I work with adults aged 18 and over, including individuals, couples and older adults. I also provide clinical supervision for practising counsellors.

People come to me for many different reasons. Sometimes there is a clear problem they want to address. At other times, something simply does not feel right and it can be difficult to put that experience into words.

My areas of specialism include:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Stress and work-related stress
  • Depression and low mood
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Anger management
  • Addiction
  • Menopause
  • Redundancy and significant life changes
  • Couples and relationship support
  • Clinical supervision for practising counsellors

You do not need to know exactly what is wrong before contacting me. We can begin with what feels most difficult, confusing or important to you and explore it together at a pace that feels manageable.

My Qualifications And Professional Standards

You must know something about the professional background of the person you are considering working with.

I hold a combined degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision. I am also a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

My professional background includes:

  • Combined Degree In Counselling And Psychotherapy: Supporting my work with individuals and couples.
  • Advanced Certificate In Clinical Supervision: Allowing me to provide reflective professional supervision to practising counsellors.
  • BACP Membership: Reflecting my commitment to professional and ethical practice.
  • Private Practice Since 2019: Providing experience of working directly with adults and couples over a number of years.

I believe professional knowledge and human connection should work together. Training provides an important foundation, while listening carefully to the person in front of me helps shape the work we do.

Continuing Professional Development

My professional development does not stop with my formal qualifications. Throughout each year, I undertake ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including reading, attending workshops and learning alongside professional peers. This is a requirement of my BACP membership, but more importantly, it helps me keep my knowledge and practical skills current and continue developing the way I work.

Ongoing learning allows me to stay informed about current thinking and developments within counselling and psychotherapy, helping me provide thoughtful, responsible and professionally informed support to the people I work with.

A Calm And Supportive Way Of Working

My approach is warm, thoughtful and supportive rather than prescriptive. I am not here to tell you how you should feel or make decisions for you.

Instead, I aim to provide space where you can slow things down, talk honestly and begin making sense of what is happening.

The principles that guide my work include:

  • Connection: I place the therapeutic relationship at the centre of our work together.
  • Respect: Your experiences, feelings and perspective deserve to be heard without judgement.
  • No Pressure: An initial session allows you to decide whether continuing feels right.
  • Confidentiality: I provide a private setting in which personal concerns can be explored.
  • Individuality: There is no expectation that everyone arrives with the same concerns or needs the same approach.
  • Professional Reflection: My training and clinical supervision work support an ongoing commitment to thoughtful and responsible practice.

Why I Do This Work

My purpose is straightforward: to provide adults and couples with a supportive place where they can speak openly, understand themselves and their relationships more clearly, and consider what they may need next.

I know that reaching out can feel like a significant step. You may have been carrying something for a long time, trying to manage alone or wondering whether speaking to someone would really make a difference.

I do not believe you need to arrive with the right words or a perfectly formed explanation. My role is to meet you where you are and create space for the conversation to begin.

How My Practice Has Developed

Establishing My Practice In 2019

I established Cheryl Robinson Counselling & Psychotherapy in 2019, developing a private practice focused on individual work, psychotherapy and relationship support.

Building Long-Term Client Relationships

While practising in Mansfield, I developed a busy face-to-face practice. Building strong therapeutic relationships became an important part of how I worked and remains central to my approach today.

Relocating To Lincolnshire In 2025

I relocated to my current area in November 2025. Many of my existing clients chose to continue working with me online, allowing those established relationships to continue despite the distance.

Supporting My Local Community Today

My face-to-face practice is now based in Theddlethorpe, close to Mablethorpe, while online appointments allow me to continue supporting people who cannot easily attend in person.

What Clients Have Said About Working With Me

The relationships I build with clients are important to me, and many have continued working with me over time, including after my relocation from Mansfield to Lincolnshire.

Experience That Goes Beyond One Type Of Client

My work includes individual sessions, psychotherapy, couples and relationship work, online support and professional clinical supervision.

Working across these different areas gives me experience of listening to concerns from different perspectives. This can include supporting someone who is struggling individually, helping two people understand what is happening within their relationship or providing a reflective professional space for another practitioner.

As a qualified clinical supervisor, I also support practising counsellors as they reflect on client work, professional development and ethical considerations.

A Practice Rooted Near Mablethorpe

For privacy and confidentiality, the full practice address is provided when your first appointment is confirmed. Sessions are available by appointment.

Ready To Find Out Whether Working Together Feels Right?

Choosing a therapist does not have to begin with a long-term commitment. I offer a calm, professional and supportive approach for adults and couples who want space to explore what is happening in their lives or relationships.

Your first appointment is simply an opportunity for us to talk, for you to ask questions and for you to experience how I work. From there, you can decide whether continuing feels right for you.
