When Therapy May Help

Relationship therapy can be helpful at different stages of a partnership. You do not need to wait until your relationship reaches a crisis before seeking support.

You may be considering couples counselling because you are:

  • Having the same arguments without reaching a resolution
  • Struggling to communicate without becoming defensive or withdrawing
  • Feeling emotionally disconnected or misunderstood
  • Coping with a significant change, loss or stressful life event
  • Rebuilding trust after hurt, secrecy or betrayal
  • Unsure how to move forward together
  • Hoping to strengthen a relationship that still matters to you

The purpose of therapy is not to decide who is right or wrong. It is to help both partners understand what is happening between them and consider more constructive ways of responding.

What We Explore Together

Sessions are shaped around your relationship and the concerns you both bring. Cheryl supports couples in exploring the strengths within their partnership alongside the difficulties causing distress.

This may include looking at:

  • How each partner communicates needs, feelings and concerns
  • Patterns that trigger conflict, avoidance or emotional distance
  • Expectations that may not have been expressed clearly
  • The impact of past experiences on the present relationship
  • Opportunities to listen, respond and relate differently

Therapy can help you slow conversations down and notice patterns that may be difficult to recognise when you are trying to resolve problems alone.

What to Expect from Your First Session

The first session is an opportunity for both partners to explain their perspective, hopes and apprehensions. Cheryl works to create a balanced environment where each person has time to speak and feels that their experience has been acknowledged.

You will begin to explore what has brought you to therapy, what you would like to change and what is already working within the relationship. You are only asked to commit to this initial appointment, giving you both the opportunity to decide whether the therapeutic relationship feels right before continuing.

A Qualified & Supportive Therapeutic Approach

Cheryl holds a combined degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. She also holds an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision and provides professional supervision to practising counsellors.

Her approach is warm, thoughtful and non-pressuring, with particular attention given to building a strong therapeutic relationship. Cheryl has supported individuals and couples through her private practice since 2019, offering both face-to-face and online sessions.

Face-to-Face & Online Therapy

Face-to-face appointments are available from Cheryl’s practice near Mablethorpe. Online video sessions are also available where travelling together is difficult or where both partners would feel more comfortable attending remotely.

Both formats provide dedicated time to discuss your relationship privately. The most appropriate option will depend on your circumstances, location and preferences.

Fees & Booking

Sessions are currently £70. Before booking, it can be helpful to check that both partners are willing to attend and able to approach the process with openness, even when you hold different views about the relationship.

You can enquire by telephone or email. Briefly explain that you are seeking couples therapy and include any practical questions about availability or session format.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do We Both Need to Attend?

Yes. It normally involves both partners attending so each person can contribute to the conversation. Both of you do not need to agree about the cause of the problem, but a willingness to participate is important.

Will You Take Sides?

No. Cheryl provides a neutral therapeutic space rather than deciding which partner is right. The focus is on understanding each person’s experience, recognising relationship patterns and supporting clearer communication between you.

Can Therapy Save Our Relationship?

Therapy cannot guarantee a particular outcome. It can provide the structure and support needed to understand your relationship more clearly, communicate more openly and make thoughtful decisions about what happens next.

What Should We Discuss Before Attending?

You do not need to prepare a detailed account. It may help to consider what has prompted you to seek support, what you would like to understand and what you hope could feel different within the relationship.

Can We Have Couples Therapy Online?

Yes. It is available as an alternative to attending face-to-face. Both partners will need a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a device suitable for video sessions.

Take the First Step Together

Seeking relationship support can feel difficult, particularly when conversations have become tense or unproductive. An initial session gives you both a structured opportunity to be heard, explore what is happening and decide whether continuing with couples therapy feels right for your relationship.
